Scheduling Best Practices

Partnering With Dentists Across DFW for Seamless Anesthesia Care

At Lone Star Dental Anesthesia, we make it simple for dental practices across the Dallas–Fort Worth area to schedule safe, efficient, and comfortable in-office anesthesia care for their patients. Our team brings hospital-level anesthesia services directly to your practice—helping you provide complex dental treatment with greater comfort and efficiency.

This page outlines our scheduling best practices and the information your office should review with patients to ensure a smooth experience for everyone involved.

Our Goal

We’re committed to helping dentists and their patients save time, money, and stress through safe and well-coordinated anesthesia care. By following the guidelines below, your office can maximize patient compliance, minimize cancellations, and make every anesthesia day as efficient as possible.

What you need to know

Scheduling Anesthesia Appointments

When you’re ready to schedule an anesthesia day, please email our office with:

  • Patient’s full name, date of birth, and contact information (phone & email)
  • Address and estimated procedure time
  • Expected surgery time

Once we receive your request, our team will contact the patient directly to review their health information, explain what to expect, and answer any questions.
We send out appointment reminders 1–2 days prior and include pre-procedure fasting (NPO) instructions for all patients.

Office Scheduling Tips

To help your anesthesia day run smoothly, we recommend the following:

  • Schedule multiple anesthesia cases in one day when possible. This maximizes efficiency for your team and patients.
  • Communicate with us if there are any changes to the procedure or schedule.
  • Reconfirm 3 days prior and again the day before to review fasting and arrival instructions.
  • Have patients arrive 15 minutes early on the day of their procedure.

We typically recommend starting anesthesia days early in the morning and allotting 30 minutes of anesthesia time in addition to your expected dental treatment duration.

NPO (Pre-Procedure Fasting) Guidelines

Proper fasting is essential for safe anesthesia. Please review the following with your patients:

  • 8 hours before anesthesia: No food. Clear liquids only (water, apple juice, or sports drinks).
  • 4 hours before anesthesia: No food or liquids at all—including water.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in rescheduling the procedure.

Patient Paperwork & Pre-Anesthesia Forms

To guarantee we can safely provide anesthesia, all required forms must be submitted in advance.

  • Each patient must fill out Lone Star Dental Anesthesia health history form in advance.
  • Older patients may require recent History and physical or medical clearance/optimization prior to surgery.
  • Completed paperwork should be sent to LSDA no later than 2 weeks prior to the scheduled procedure.

Having this information early ensures our team can perform all necessary pre-anesthesia evaluations and confirm medical clearance.

Day-of Procedure Reminders

  • Patients should plan to keep their schedule clear on the day of their procedure; timing can occasionally shift earlier or later.
  • Emphasize the importance of following all pre-op instructions—these procedures require extensive coordination and preparation.
  • The patient must have a responsible adult driver present for pick-up after anesthesia.
